The IRONMAN Foundation – Newton Running Triathlon Team Launch New Service Project at IRONMAN Lake Placid

The IRONMAN Foundation – Newton Running Ambassador Triathlon Team have launched a new service project at the 2013 IRONMAN Lake Placid where they will deliver cookies to residents living on both the bike and run course of IRONMAN Lake Placid, as part of “The Cooke Project 2.0”. With the help of a local baker the tri team will be delivering over 4,000 cookies to 650 residents on July 27 before race day.

In an effort to create and maintain a positive relationship with the residents of the IRONMAN Lake Placid community, the Cookie Project 2.0 is a gesture of appreciation. The tri team understands that all summer long runners and cyclists ride through the resident's neighborhood, and they wanted to thank them for their patience and ability to work and drive safely around  the athletes.

The original Cookie Project, which took place on Memorial Day in 2013, was a way for the athletes living in the IRONMAN Wisconsin community to thank the residents who lived along the bike course for working with them as they trained throughout the year for their upcoming races. The first cookie project delivered over 2,000 cookies to 360 homes that lined the bike course of IRONMAN Wisconsin and was the brainchild of local triathlete Jen Anderson.

In addition to The Cookie Project 2.0, The IRONMAN Foundation – Newton Running Ambassador Tri Team will also be conducting a service project at the AuSable River Association. The tri team will be a supporting a park refurbishment project to enable future generations to enjoy the AuSable River area, for more years to come. At the 2013 IRONMAN Lake Placid event there will be 11 tri team members participating in both service projects which will help support the mission of The IRONMAN Foundation and Newton Running.
